gabe meets emma first semester of freshman year at boston college

he's taking a french class for fun even though he's fluent in french

him and emma end up next to one another for the class

at first, emma's not so sure about gabe since he acts kind of dumb in the class so the professor doesn't know he's fluent

that annoys her because she thinks it's stupid when people play dumb even though they're super smart

his athletic persona also throws her off a bit and she thinks he doesn't ever care at all because he's just forced to be in his classes to be able to play

they start talking after the first week of classes when gabe's actively doing another class's work

emma actively laughs out loud when she sees him trying to do economics

"something funny?"

she shakes her head and thus starts their mini whispering argument about economics

eventually that leads to gabe asking for her number to get help later on since emma claims she's so good at econ

after a few tutoring sessions emma realizes she might've been wrong about gabe all along

the two become close fairly quickly and he convinces her to come to one of his games that weekend

she starts learning a lot about hockey from gabe whenever he'd start rambling on about it during their tutoring sessions

finally after a month of tutoring gabe decides to ask her out on a date once the boys convince him she'd say yes

she agrees!

they go out to a fancy dinner where they're both pretty nervous it goes super well & gabe kisses her before dropping her off at her dorm

they start dating a week after!

her and her brother are super close and always have been hence why they went to the same college together

loves listening to emma ramble on about what book she's currently reading and even starts reading them too!

when she goes to his game for the first time he almost combusts when he sees her in the sweatshirt he lent her for it

tldr: my extremely important opinions in researching The Mummy ships; Evy and Rick are a well deserved classics; i discovered Ardeth/Jonathan and nothing is the same now; Anck Su Namun is like shown as sassy but deserves a little better of acknowledgement

wow so do you sometimes procrastinate by looking at AO3 what are the popular ships for certain fandoms, cause i do

so i did for The Mummy bc everyone is hot there, so I thought it would be wild - but it is not really, it is just cool and my life is changed - so as for my research

firstly, it is kinda nice that a canonical and explicit ship (Evy and Rick) is actually so likeable that it remains popular and it actually remains far at the top and people quite rarely break it for other ships, and like Evy is our beloved cool nerd <3 and Rick could leave out carrying her around to shut her up, but he's at the end of the day a supportive badass + he's hot like Evy is as well and so is everyone else

BUT i found that Jonathan and Ardeth are quite a thing in the fandom, it is called Jardeth sometimes. a new horizon i tell you. and it's actually really funny and sweet, like the mysterious badass and the clumsy jester, and some content for it is so great omg.. so i know this for two days, but im already diving into a fluffy WIP series on ao3

the shippers often say the headcanons rose from interactions in The Mummy Returns, which i mostly remember as a very wtf movie, but i rushed through their scenes, so it is truth that Ardeth pays J quite a lot of attention, the authors probably wanted them to make friends at least, although there are not that many scenes in the end.. most of it would not have to be so clearly flirty, although they are quite touchy feely, but like, everyone is touchy feely there

but damn

that scene where they talk about weapon skills just doesn't make any sense omg - Ardeth actually approaches Jonathan, as r/e are fluffy and sad about their kidnapped kid and J stands a little aside - and like A looks at J and stands up and walks to him looking somewhat nervous really, or is it just my impression? he then asks J if he's good with a rifle that J meanwhile grabs, so the only other reason i thought of (other than like.. being generally interested in conversation but being shy.. maybe because of hots) is that he might have been worried what this disaster of a person would do later in the fight - that makes sense i guess, cause he asks about the rifle and later gives him some advice on killing mummies - and then J starts flexing wild, i guess it is still a little in character, but then he asks A about his skill with sword, and ARDETH STARTS FLEXING AS WELL , like even the advice is dramatic sassy flexing, like the always reasonable (apart from the plane scene) wise humble blahblah hero - he flexes by swishing the blade to J's throat so dramatically it is even stupid, and the look he makes thereafter, like he's sassy and dramatic, then when he finishes his stuff, he lets the blade down and kind of softens and nods and measures J amusedly, like seriously (edit p.s.: also J is weirdly nervous when he notices Ardeth at his side?? like before he even starts to speak? like they know each other for quite some time, they spoke quite casually even during this movie, what are you afraid of bro?)

the fun is it actually reminds me of that weird interaction between Aragorn and Eowyn before the battle, where he like should probably be supportive, but kind of flexes and puts her down a bit - Aragorn is def rather in love with Arwen and in fact Eowyn is a kid to him, but, talking just about filming language, it always seemed to me that in the movies they kind of suggested that he had a thing for Eowyn in a way, maybe just being depressed after the assumed breakup, but whatever - so this similarity is like.. really..? ok...

so like ..i get the shippers based on this scene of like less than half a minute

but like also other tiny moments change in that light hehe - like Ardeth being amused by Jonathan, being generally weirdly interested in each other's stuff etc.. i can see the point

otherwise, Ardeth is of course terribly hot, so he's also shipped with OCs and everyone else, but very popular is a threesome with rick and evy, so that would be quite a family

just a last note, Anck Su Namun deserved a bit better in the second movie i think, she is kind of badass and sassy, but she is really too much of a bitch and lets Imhotep burn, like, ok realistically it is natural to not react perfectly in such danger, but like, it is shown as a sort of betrayal, and like, yeah, they did the apocalypse, but in the first movie she and Imphotep felt kind of understandable in the backstory and i always felt like she was herself a victim of a terrible system that deprived her of free will and bodily autonomy, which she actually states with her last words - and i did not have very much of a pity for the pharaoh tbh - so like.. if they did not kill so many people, i'd actually root for them quite a lot (and they get an acceptable percentage on ao3, being only below e/r, jardeth, and e/r/a threesome)

and i was thinking about mc's parents meeting nxx. in a scenario where maybe, they need researchers and for some reason or whatever they need someone personal, who they can fully trust including maybe some nxx stuff.

well, if marius von hagen needed them. surely they'd be allowed to leave the program maybe temporarily.

and that's how vyn, artem, and marius have their internal parental issues brought out in full force at the sight of mc and luke with mc's parents. like they're just coddling them in the Parent way and they're both enjoying it as a Son and Daughter would. and those three are just like Oh. Wow. That Looks Nice.

artem has both parents but like based on how he's lonely as a kid i know these sorts of interactions were surely few and far between. he would Not be so emotionally repressed. marius has a loving dad but a dead mom who people blame him for and austin has said himself that he Represses. like marius. and vyn? Disastrous. yeah they would be having a Moment with that sort of scenario

and the Moments they will be having when the parenting goes to them too. because i think mc's parents are the type to parent their kid's friends too. they see these sad boys and think. Adopted.

itd be sweet and also entertaining if mc’s parents invited them all to a dinner. i mean, the nxx boys are the people she hangs around The Most so it’s basically like meeting her friend group! her….really weird and varied friend group who REALLY want to make a good impression.

current obsession: unfortunately the vampire book series i have been like talking about so much, silver under nightfall and its sequel court of wanderers !! i am thinking of what i wouldve done differently in the sequel fkskfksf (also coming to the horrid realization that they were like setting up pegging but i dont think my guys ever got pegged. whats the point. truly. heres my editors notes. why didnt the main character get pegged? like theres so many things that were set up and mentioned and that didnt come to fruition and thats not my only critique its not JUST about pegging. but the lack of pegging is like representative of many of the issues i have with the book. why didnt he get pegged. they bring it up MULTIPLE times and yet we never saw the strap. they describe it in universe as being "shafted" and YEAH i certainly feel shafted !!! i need answers!!!!!!!! im OPENING my googledocs and writing the fic where he gets pegged !!!!!) this will like pass in a couple days im sure. i think. i hope

alright so idk i just wanted to share an anecdote and my journey as an aroace person.

So this story starts the beginning of my freshman year. my second day really because it was just us on the first. now this needs prefaced by saying, i don’t have a lot of friends. it’s not some sad horrific thing - i mean id like a couple more friends but i’m not keen on a giant group. so at this point i have one solid friend, and i make it through the day like scouting out who’s nice and who i could get along with. my last class of the day is acting and i’ve already seen these people once or twice helping out with drama and i quickly get the understanding that they’re chill and id get along with them. the acting class is in the auditorium and we’re told to sit stage right in like two sections. i just pick a seat way off to the (stage) right, around people but not directly next to anyone. over the next week or so i start settling in and end up joining the big group twords the middle. i sit next to these two friends who i think are pretty cool and they seem to like me.

and the year progresses. i don’t become besties with one or the other but i make friends in general. i’m not sure if i could like become best friends with one of them because they had a really tight bond. like hallmark movie best friends. like the small part that isn’t ineffable about this relationship will be explained later on. but i am making other friends (i’m just gonna go with initials bc these ppl follow me on tumblr) and i become really good friends with w. we have some common interests but generally we just vibe yk.

now i’m gonna skip ahead a couple months to the school class play. all of us are involved in this - the previously mentioned acting friends (m and p) are both actors along with me and w is on stage crew. so one day w and i are mopping the stage or something just talking. i can’t remember exactly how it went but w has a boyfriend and he talks about him sometimes. but w really only refers to them as “my boyfriend” so i’m just going with it and pretending i know who it is. anyway at some point while we’re talking i must’ve said something like “who is your boyfriend btw” and they’re like ohhh l. and i just feel so dumb. they’re always together and interacting and i’m just like how did i not realize. i think about it for like a full day realizing how many things have gone over my head and how oblivious i am. fast forward a week or two to opening night. i’m kinda nervous because this is my first play-and also my first performance but i only had one line and i knew i could nail my characters. i have one bit in scene 3 then i change and im not needed til scene 7 so i mostly sit around and if it wasn’t crowded i sat in the fem dressing room. it’s about intermission time and we’re kinda sitting in a semi circle doing makeup as a bunch of queer (not girl) afabs. we’re talking about past relationships and stuff and coming out when p is talking and they say something along the lines of ‘and my dad was like you seem to be besttt frienddsss with m’. everyone understands and acknowledges it. then i realize. i’m like wtf. and i go ‘you’re with m??’ just lost and they confirm. this was like 10x more obvious than w and l. i have no clue how i didn’t see it. but 3 months in i realized that there relationship was romantic.

i don’t know why i care but i do. i wanted that friendship. i wanted a relationship like that. i thought i could have that if i found the right person. and in a single phrase i realized that i can’t. i know i can’t be in love. i accepted that long ago. but i struggle to accept this. maybe i didn’t believe in true love or whatever before i met them. but the way that they look at each others like they’re all they need. like it’ll be okay as long as they’re together. like i can see the hearts in their eyes. the way that they talk. the way they’re always laughing with each other. they way that they just effortlessly get each other. i don’t want to date them. i mean i’m aroace and lesbian at that. but i am so incredibly jealous. it’s like i see them together and it feels like a dagger in my chest. then i want a dagger in my chest. the jealousy consumes me.

at the beginning of that year i thought i had come to terms with myself. i’m not sure if i have. but i haven’t seen anyone talk about feeling this way, and if you’re like this, you’re not alone. we’re gonna make it through. it doesn’t matter how many friends you have or how relatable they are right now. you’re gonna find your person. and i hope someday i can find a plutonic m to my p

i really struggle with friends. i currently have 2 solid friends that i talk to most days. i know that i’m not either of their number ones. i’m aware that i put in eighty percent of the effort into our relationships. at least with one of them. but i know that people do care for me. and that i may never be able to fall in love, but i still get to be loved. and i still get to love. i just have so many more people to share my love with. i love you.

Ages: Wally, Julie, Eddie: 10. Barnaby, Frank: 11. Sally: 16, Poppy: 17, Howdy: 29, Home: 42

Wally has lots of ideas and is less talkative than Barnaby but he does talk. he and Barnaby are inseparable.

Barnaby (contrary to Ferb) talks a lot. He's the one explaining what they're doing and is there to help Wally make his idea a reality

Julie is the energetic girl next door! she can either have no crush, a crush on Wally, or a crush on Barn. idk man

Frank is a nerd but isn't afraid to get dirty. catch this kid digging in the dirt and climbing trees for science! loves bugs still ofc. in denial about a possible crush on Eddie.

Eddie isn't a bully, but does have personal space issues. he'll pick up his friends, etc without asking. this especially annoys Frank bc he's usually the victim of this. by hypothetical mid season 2 Eddie gets some character development and learns to respect personal space more. he has a crush on frank

Home is Wally and Barnaby's guardian. He adopted them separately. doesn't believe Sally and thinks she's exaggerating their shenanigans for Dramatic Effect.

Sally is their next door neighbor and Poppy's best friend. she's at Wally's house so often bc she's nosy and is determined to prove to Home that these kids are building rollercoasters in the backyard.

Poppy "doesn't do much" but is secretly a young secret agent and the most anxious one. she's good at her job tho! she's the other nextdoor neighbor and Sally's best friend.

Howdy is,, an evil inventor/capitalist? he's got Big Ideas and Inventions but they always end up evil. he doesn't get along with his family except for his nephews. He and Poppy are nemeses

PHINEAS AND FERB AU?? THIS ATE SO HARD I LOVE THIS

Wally and Barnaby having the Phineas and Ferb dynamic but switching the talking roles is so cool. Wally has too many ideas and Barn is happy to help!

Julie being their friend and not having a crush is honestly how I can see it, maybe she feels a little left out in the neighborhood and that’s why she’s constantly hanging around them? Gives her more motivation to stick around besides Isabella’s crush in canon

Frank and Eddie having crushes on each other but being in denial is adorable. Eddie likes Frank and is super physical about it, which annoys Frank but probably also makes him happy knowing Eddie’s comfortable enough to be doing that- they’re in love your honor

Home being Wally and Barnaby’s guardian makes me so happy idk why. Him just being a parent who goes along with his kids’s wacky ideas and ignores the neighbor girl constantly telling him about the inventions they make every day is great. I can totally see him knowing about it and keeping it secret so his kids can enjoy themselves

Sally seriously wanting people to know about the kids and their inventions makes me laugh so hard. She’s trying so hard and no one believes her besides Poppy

Poppy tries her best even if she’s nervous. I think if she’s taking Perry’s role, she can sometimes be Wally and Barnaby’s babysitters just for the “hey, where’s Poppy?” bit

Howdy as an evil scientist my beloved, I’d marry him <3

Howdy and Poppy beefing is so funny to me because I can totally see Poppy being terrified every time it happens but still defeating Howdy through either his own incompetence or some crazy circumstances

Finding love in the workplace isn’t impossible (I mean look at Jonah and Amy) but it is shaky ground for Garrett.

And yeah, he’s a bit nervous to climb the whole relationship ladder with you instead of just hook ups…but you were different.

You’re sweet, smart, you thought he was funny and you were pretty witty yourself. You were confident but not abrasive… he could go on. Most of all, you’re interested in him for him— not just his body.

Slowly but surely, he starts warming up to being physically affectionate… on your first date, when you kept missing the little smear of sauce on your cheek from dinner, he leaned across the table to wipe it off for you. His thumb lingered against your skin a bit…it was a small gesture, but it made his stomach flutter. Touching you made him feel warm, and giddy (not that he would tell anyone that.)

On your second date, he bumped his hand into yours when you both reached for some popcorn in the theatre. You both glanced at each other out of the corner of your eyes, smiling sheepishly.

He tried to play it cool but a few minutes later, (once the popcorn was finished) he brushed his hand against yours on the armrest. You took the hint and held his hand, which made him absurdly happy.

By your third date, he’s worked up to having his arm around you or his hand on your thigh… 🤭

It will take time for him to do these things at work or around his friends, but eventually he’ll be able to comfortably do more domestic things around others like brush hair out of your face or give you chaste kisses hello/goodbye when you clock in/out.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

The title of Garrett’s Best Friend is widely sought after, Randy held it for YEARS until Jonah snatched it up. (At work, you and Jonah still compete for the spot of Garrett’s #1 .)

You became friends when you started working at Cloud 9, along with Jonah and Mateo. He showed you around the store a bit and he gave you the whole spiel about who’s who, which made you feel more comfortable since the other new hires weren’t having the best first day.

Garrett was easy to get along with. Being close friends with him means hanging out whenever you can!

You usually swing by costumer service for fake reasons, like returning pens that didn’t belong to him so that you could talk during your shift. You liked listening to his announcements, and sometimes wrote quips for him to read on the intercom, slipping little in-jokes into his scripts to try to make him break.

The two of you would come up with little pranks to pull on Glenn, or games for your coworkers to play during boring days. Cart Racing, Scanner Wars, Customer Safari, you name it…

You’d keep each other in the loop about gossip and speculate about the goings on in the store. Who is the secret shopper? Would Mateo and Eric be a good couple? Is the cereal bar just Zephra buttering up the Cloud 9 staff? It’s all getting talked about.

You go together to any coworker events like Emma’s quinceañera and Amy’s Golden Globes party. (((Of course, you hang out outside of work too, often casual hangouts (which could include Jonah & Randy) like binging tv shows, gaming, going out to eat etc!)))

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He would like to hold you close on the couch while watching tv, it makes him feel more comfortable and sometimes his warmth and gentle touch is enough to make you drift off to sleep which he thinks is very cute <3 He would have one arm around you while you’re curled into his side with your head on your chest.

In bed, he would want to spoon until you fall asleep (of course he would be the big spoon :3) His chin would be tucked into the space between your neck & shoulder, and his arms would be wrapped around your middle.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

He’s not necessarily known for his long term relationships, I feel like at first he would be scared to rush into things and would be overwhelmed by the idea of settling down with you. He wants to treat you right, and to make sure he’s really in love before he makes a commitment like that.

He does want a future with you but would date you for at least 3 years before even talking about marriage…just to make sure. He’s seen how marriage to the wrong person can make people miserable (Amy & Adam—) so he just wants to take it slow.

He’s pretty competent with cooking and cleaning.

He can make a few really solid meals, something hearty and comforting that still takes skill to pull of. I feel like he would be really proud of making a good pasta dish like fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti carbonara, baked macaroni and cheese…

(It’s unclear to me if he really is Swedish & Norwegian or if he was just messing with Glenn, but just in case: he cooks prinskorv (sausages) around Christmas, and makes amazing lapskaus (stew.))

The two of you try to split the labour, like ‘you make dinner/I wash the dishes’ arrangements. In general he makes sure that he keeps tidy enough, though some tasks are more difficult to do if they are very high to like dusting cabinets or down low like washing the floors so you compromise.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

As he says, it’s best to just rip off the bandaid, he wouldn’t wait weeks or months after deciding that.

He’d make sure to tell you in person, not through text or over the phone because you deserve more than that.

He would want it to be in private, so he wouldn’t take you out on ‘one last date’, he would probably sit you down at his place and explain that he doesn’t think he doesn’t think the two of you should be together anymore.

He also would have pre-packed the things you gave him/he borrowed from you through the relationship so that you can take them back. He wouldn’t cry in front of you, or maybe at all, but he would tell you he’s sorry that it didn’t work out and wish you well. :(

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Commitment is intimidating to Garrett. It’s not that he doesn’t want to have a committed relationship, it’s just that he hasn’t had much luck with it before. When he was at his lowest points, he thought that he might never get to have a long term partner because he just wasn’t good at keeping them around. Since meeting you, he’s changed his tune. He absolutely wants to be committed to you, it just takes a while for him to accept that and carry it out.

He wants things to happen naturally and not feel forced, and it’s been going pretty well so far! The two of you started as friends and had an organic connection, slowly you grew closer until eventually there were stronger feelings there, you went on a few dates and ended up really enjoying them, and now you’re…together. It’s the exact situation that he would want!

That being said he wouldn’t want to even talk about marrying you until he was sure you were going to last. 3 years in he finally breached the conversation, and found out that you would be interested in marriage too! It would take a while for him to propose, maybe a year or 2 after that conversation… he likes to take it slow :)

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

I feel like in general his touch is pretty soft but not light necessarily. By that I mean, he’s not an aggressive or grabby guy, but he’s not the type to skim his fingers across your skin— it’s a full, direct touch.

Though if you’re needing some deeper pressure for relaxation or grounding, he’s the man to go to. He gives good, enveloping, solid hugs. He’ll rub your shoulders in a deep massage. He can hold and squeeze your hand tightly. It’s all up to what you need in the moment :)

Emotionally, yes I think he’s gentle. He likes to take things slow with you, and won’t push you or himself to do things that aren’t well thought out or truly wanted. He’s a bit shy about it, it’s not “manly” to be seen as gentle, but that’s really how he is. He’s a good guy with a big heart, it just takes some time for him to show it.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Garrett does like hugs! In public, he goes for more of a ‘side-hug’, to seem more casual. (He also likes having his arms around you do show that you’re taken 🙈)

In private, he likes long, squishy hugs.

If he’s hugging you, he’s fully wrapping his arms around you and holding you close to him. He’ll hug you for as long as you want/need and it feels safe and comfortable. He’s not crushing you or anything, but his arms are strong, and his chest is solid and you feel little compared to him.

If you’re hugging him, it usually because he’s tired or stressed. He likes to bury his face into your chest and breathe in your scent. Just hold him close and let him listen to your heartbeat as he starts to calm down…

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

It would take Garrett a while to say it to you, to him, it’s a big deal to tell someone he loves them. I would say probably 2 or 3 months… if that seems long to you, sorry, but that’s the time that he needs!

When he does tell you, it’s in a quiet moment. Maybe the two of you are getting ready for bed, and he sees you doing your skincare, or brushing your teeth— something simple. He just watches you, thinking about how beautiful you are, how much he likes spending time with you.

When you’re done, you turn around to face him. You tease him for staring at you, and ask him what’s up.

“Nothing, I just… I love you.”

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Garrett would pretend that he’s not jealous even though he is. Logically, he knows that he doesn’t have to worry about any of his coworkers sweeping you off your feet. I mean, what do they have that he doesn’t?

It’s the customers that he doesn’t always trust. Sometimes you’ll be giggling at one of their jokes while scanning their groceries, or having some friendly banter about how much it sucks to work retail.

(((Sandra (who’s bagging groceries) will tell you that you have to tell Garrett what you did, even though you obviously did NOT cheat on him.)))

He doesn’t like other people making you laugh :(

He would get pretty jealous if he thought a customer was funnier than him, especially if it’s a regular. He’s a sulky kind of jealous, and would be passive agressive about it. “I guess everything’s just hilarious today.” if it happened a lot. If you confront him about it he would totally deny. “Hah…I’m not jealous, okay? I’m funny, I’m a funny guy… it’s kind of my thing, so…”

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

I think he would be a pretty good kisser. He’s really receptive to you, and is good at gauging the mood. He can tell if it’s going to be slow and soft, or if you want to kick it up a notch.

I feel like he’s got some sort of secret technique down, but he’ll NEVER tell anyone because it sounds so dorky. Works like a charm though!

His lips are nice and soft, and his moustache/beard sometimes tickles or scratches your face :) He likes to kiss your lips most of all, but sometimes he’ll hold your hand and kiss the back of it or your knuckles <3 If things are escalating between you he’ll kiss your neck, and he likes the same from you. He also loves when you kiss his cheek around others!!

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Garrett is not amazing with kids.

Not really little kids, at least… he can…kind of handle babies, I mean he and Dina did run an impromptu daycare in the middle of the store. He thinks his coworkers’ children are cute…Rose, Parker, Harmonica, whoever.

But to truly feel comfortable with a child they have to be at least, like, 5 years old. By then they can play games and entertain themselves without too much input from him.

Overall, he’s better suited to talk to teenagers, as seen with the horny teen guy at Emma’s quinceañera (😭) and Sandra’s son Tony.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He’s not really a morning person, if he can he loves to sleep in. He’ll hold you close in bed and ask for just 5 more minutes because he really doesn’t want to go to work. His morning voice is all gravely and cute so you indulge him if you have some time to spare.

When you finally convince him to get up, he grumbles and lazily pulls on his clothes.

You do your little morning routine together and if there’s enough time have a simple breakfast, like toast or cereal. If you like having a coffee/tea in the morning you guys can stop somewhere on your way to work, or get something from the cafeteria after you clock in :)

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

If the two of you aren’t dating, you’ll spend nights up late texting and sending memes back and forth. I feel like he’s the type to send you tons of Instagram reels that you gotta grade like it’s homework🫡

If you’re a gamer, you might spend a couple of hours playing whatever new game the two of you are into, but you’ll almost certainly log off before he does to catch some shut eye.

If you’re into it, he’ll call you (FaceTime, Skype, Discord, whatever) so you can talk more personally and “hang out” from home. Maybe you even fall asleep on the phone with him… who knows? 😇

If you do live together, it’s more quiet. I think Garrett likes to unwind after work and have a chill night at home on an average day. Make some dinner, watch some tv, something lowkey.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

It would take him a while to start getting more vulnerable with you and telling you personal information. About 4 months into the relationship he would finally start opening up to you and dropping the facade of the “cool guy.” He would tell you about his childhood, his family life, his past relationships… slowly over the course of your months and years together more and more would he revealed about his secrets, dreams, fears, etc.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

He doesn’t get angry with you easily, or often. Working in customer service has really taught him how to be patient.

He has answered hundreds of stupid questions, argued with rude costumers, and explained the same concept multiple times…He has patience with people he doesn’t even know or like, so he’ll go above and beyond for you (because he loves you.)

If he does eventually get frustrated with you he’ll probably just tell you that you’ll talk about it later and leave :/

When he calms down he’ll speak clearly about whatever the issue was, and hopefully resolve it.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He can’t easily recall tons of things you told him about your life before you started working at Cloud 9, like what high school you went to or all the names of your childhood pets…but Garrett tries extra hard to remember things that you’re particularly passionate about.

Your favourite music, movies, books etc. He likes to bring up these things in conversation, to show that he was listening. Like, “hey, did you see the new episode last night?” or “so how was the last chapter of that book?”

If you’ve been dating for a while, he’ll make you playlists of music that you like, or artists that sound similar :)

He knows your favourite/ comfort food and cooks/orders it for you when you’re sick or upset.

He remembers more of your likes than dislikes, but he does listen to your rants and pick up on your pet peeves. (Sometimes the best way to bond with someone is hating the same thing!)

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

I think his favourite moment with you was during the tornado— yes I know that’s weird but hear me out. It was a scary situation for everyone, and just as Jonah and Amy comforted each other, you and Garrett stuck by each other’s side the entire time. It kind of made him realize like… this is it, this is his person. And he doesn’t say that to you, I mean, you’re stressed enough as it is without him dropping the whole “you are the only person in this world I want to be with” bomb… it sounds crazy but it’s totally true, when he thinks about his favourite moment with you, it would be him holding you while everything around him tumbled to the ground…in all the chaos, the only constant was you. <33

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Garrett is protective of you, especially if he becomes jealous. He doesn’t want to feel like he could lose you to someone else, so if he can he’ll try to limit your interaction with them. If he sees a costumer is flirting with you, he’ll page you to costumer service, or announce there’s something to clean up in a different isle so you have to leave.

He would want you to be a little jealous too, just to show that you really care :)

If we’re taking protection more literally, he wouldn’t like, go back into an active fire to save you 💀 he would yell at you to evacuate and wheel his ass outta there. But if it was a situation where something was going to hit you, like a car, he would definitely push you out of the way.

As for you protecting him, be careful… you don’t want it to come off as if you have to babysit him, even though he’s disabled he can do shit for himself. He’s a grown man after all, he’ll manage. Even if you’re not trying to imply that he can’t, he could interpret it that way. Maybe he needs to learn to accept more help from others, there’s two sides to the coin here. To be safe, just ask him if he needs help or backup when something intense is happening.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Don’t expect Jonah-levels of effort, there will be no glow in the dark stars on your ceiling as a grand gesture of love. HOWEVER, Garrett can be sweet in his own, subtler ways.

He’ll slip little notes/jokes into your locker or lunch bag at work to make you smile. Nothing overly romantic but maybe some silly quote from a tv show the two of you are watching together, or something he wants to talk to you about on your break like “remind me to tell you about the new bunker in Dead Chaser 4.”

Sometimes he’ll buy you an extra snack or drink from break room vending machines, especially if you’ve had a rough day. After your shift he’ll drop you off at your car… over all he tries to distract you from how boring work is, and that doesn’t always involve store-wide employee games.

When dating he’ll take you to that movie that you’ve been wanting to see, or the new bar you’ve been meaning to check out. He knows you and will pay attention to what you like & loves showing you that he remembers!!

For an anniversary, he could go either way. If you wanted something fancier and more traditional— you know, nice dinner, candles, some sort of shiny jewelry— he’ll do it for you. If you wanna do something more out there, like axe throwing or something… fuck it, he’s in.

As for gifts he’s not big into handmade stuff, but he will splurge on your gifts! He’ll buy you the next edition of the series you’re into (could be movies, games, books/comics/manga, whatever!!) that you’ve been trying to save up for. Collectors items for your chosen media will also be his go to, another Funko Pop for your shelf, or Lego environment. Basically supporting your little nerd hobbies :)

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

You love Garrett, but he’s not perfect. Here are some of his bad habits….

⁃ He spends too much money on shoes

⁃ (He’s totally the type to lowball people and haggle on Facebook Marketplace for them)

⁃ He double texts you a lot and floods your dms with memes (like he did with Colleen)

⁃ He’s a loud gamer, and competitive. expect some shouting when he loses, and especially when he’s playing online because if his teammates let him down he’ll let them have it

⁃ (He also stays up really late doing it 😭)

⁃ He is passive aggressive, and avoids his issues until it all bubbles up. Obviously he’s sarcastic and sometimes that can get him into trouble if you’re not in the mood for it. Especially if the two of you are in an argument and he lets slip some sort of passive aggressive remark that he had been holding in until now

⁃ Does not take criticism well, either brushes it off or interprets it very personally

⁃ And when you hurt his feelings he won’t tell you until he’s at his breaking point, he lets it stew!! :(

⁃ Not good at being sentimental at first, and genuinely showing his emotions to you is going to be difficult when you’re first starting out… he will act very nonchalant about your relationship at first because he wants to seem cool…give it time

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Throughout his life, Garrett has received snide remarks about the way he looks. Some of them have been truly awful, like slights about being black, or being a wheelchair user. Even though race and physical abilities are horrible things for someone to discriminate against, he’s accepted that the world is unfortunately full of bigots and that it will happen sometimes. (Make no mistake, he will stand up for himself, but he’s not like enraged about it.) He cannot change these things about himself, and he wouldn’t even if he could, they are apart of him (but do not define him) and he’s proud of that.

People (mostly family) have commented about his weight, but even that doesn’t bother him anymore. There’s nothing wrong with being a bigger guy, and he keeps himself healthy (yes, it’s possible to be plus sized and fit!!) so it’s all water off a duck’s back.

By now, Garrett is pretty comfortable with his appearance. When he was younger he probably was more insecure about it, as all teenagers were, but he’s 40 now and he’s become more secure in himself since then.

…Except for his chin. Or, lack thereof? Seriously, after he shaved his beard off he was really insecure about it so just don’t say anything about it until it grows back.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

‘Incomplete’ is a bit strong….Garrett can handle being on his own, sometimes he even prefers it. He doesn’t need to be in a relationship to be fulfilled, so he won’t fall apart without one or anything.

However, before the two of you were together there was some…loneliness on his part. He fell into bit of a rut, working, coming home, playing video games, ordering pizza for dinner… rinse and repeat.

Dating you introduced a fresh variable into his life, and it excited him that you brought new opportunities and experiences. Even if the two of you fell into a routine, it was way better to share that with you.

So, yes, he does feel more ‘whole’ since being with you and some of that would be lost if you were to (god forbid) break up.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

He mentioned to Colleen that he’s an anime fan, I feel like he’s the type to watch all of One Piece…not because he fully loves it, but because of the sunk cost fallacy! He’s invested too much time in it now to give up. Also, he loved Naruto when he was in high school— it’s just a right of passage.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Garrett needs balance. He doesn’t want someone who’s too clingy, but he doesn’t want to feel neglected. He doesn’t want someone that’s ignorant, but you can’t be a know it all. He doesn’t want someone who’s boring, but you shouldn’t be funnier than him! It’s going to be hard to find the happy medium at first…

He’s learned from the Nikki situation (the transphobic protester from s1), and is keeping his morals in check; he’ll do his homework on you to make sure you share his values, bigotry is inexcusable.

Most of all, he doesn’t want an off and on relationship with you, he’s done it before and it’s exhausting. Don’t give him mixed signals like Dina, don’t ghost him like Colleen, just be honest with him about what you want and you’ll figure it out together!

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

He’s a bit of a night owl, I can totally see him staying up till like, 5 am or pulling all nighters to grind on a video game.

When he does finally get to sleep, he needs it to be completely dark and has blackout curtains for this reason. He likes it to be cool so he keeps a fan on, it doubles as white noise for him so it’s a win.

He would like to sleep on his stomach because it’s the most comfortable position (fight me) but it’s horrible for his back so he sleeps on his side.

He has a king size bed, and sleeps in the middle, but if he’s with you then he’s on the left.

As for cuddling, he doesn’t like your limbs to be all tangled up throughout the night because he overheats easily, but is the type to spoon you to sleep if that’s what you like. He’s a heavy sleeper for sure and definitely snores a bit (but totally denies it) :)

god im going to miss my high school friends so much they're so cool and my rapport with them is so effortless im so comfortable with them and they know who i am. going to orientation i met a lot of ppl in my major and a couple ppl who might be cool who i didn't talk to much bc im so awkward and they're not in my major i didn't have any sessions with them. i didn't bring up being nonbinary with anyone there at all even though in retrospect i should've and there were times i could've why didn't i bring it up then!!!! i just feel so stupid writing it out there were plenty of times talking with faculty or students i could've told or corrected them i didn't know how am i supposed to introduce myself like "hey i'm [x] i use they/them pronouns" no one else did that it feels so stilted and nerve wracking. i don't even call myself nonbinary i've just been around people who are cool and get my deal i guess it's technically what it is but it feels so awkward to say. it feels awkward and i don't know how to say it im so unbelievably anxious and autistic like. god. i should've said it when i asked a guy about housing because he kept talking about females but i didn't say i'm nonbinary because idk im nervous im a fucking idiot why didn't i say that i was thinking ir i didn't think it was the right moment when is the right moment but then god how do i say it now. when i went to an academic seminar i signed in and the guy running it said "a lot of females in metals fab" to me i didn't say anything i could've said something. when some other girls in metals fab/welding invited me to sit with them because they thought i was a girl and they were talking about there being so few girls was i supposed to say it then it felt weird and then it was 2 hours later and i kept thinking that i had to and i felt like i was going to throw up. for an hour i felt like i was going to throw up sitting in a seminar next to them thinking about how i could say it casually when it was over and we got up to leave and then i didn't because people were walking away i never feel like it's the right moment and then i feel like i miss it. when the van driver said hey ladies i did say it then i said i use they them pronouns but does that explain myself how do i know they know what i'm talking about. it's all so bad so bad i have never ever been comfortable correcting or telling people i can only kind of do it when i'm with friends and my friends are so nice as to sometimes do it for me when they catch it because they know i can't why is it like this i have to get over this to be a person existing in the world i've had it good that i spend my time around people who know and who are cool but it's nauseating. i just hate it i hate all of it i have to accept the reality of the world the reality i'm living in but it makes me literally want to throw up and die that i have to tell people one by one for the rest of my life until i die that i'm not a woman i use they/them. no one unless i guess i'm wearing a big pin or a flag and they are also familiar with any of that is going to recognize me as not a woman if i continue to dress the way i dress which is more or less how i like to dress. i don't want to have to tell them and explain it i want them to just know which is impossible for me to expect but knowing i'll have to do that forever makes me weep it makes my skin crawl augh. augh!!!!

you are not prepared for the amount of purple nonsense I have to talk about I promise

Purple ones do like to give gifts! They're like reverse raccoons, where they show up in the middle of the night to give you things instead of steal them. (Usually. There's been some theft when something looks particularly cool and science-able. There's also been a lot of apology pizzas.)

The complication to this is that Donnie likes giving sciencey gifts, and his brothers are not what you might call 'appreciative of the finer things in life'. Donnie's the only one excited about Splinter bringing home an anemometer, y'know? So it's not like he can gift weather instruments to the dum-dums he lives with. Sadly.

And then Tello shows up, after sixteen MORE years of being a huge damn nerd (affectionate). They remember their home laboratory very fondly, even if they also remember it as being pretty rudimentary. Donnie objects to this descriptor until he sees what Tello can do and then promptly shuts his mouth.

Despite being much more advanced in their scientific knowledge and mystic abilities, Tello wants to see everything in Donnie's lab. It's been a while since they've had a place so well-stocked, what with the end of the world and all. And it's not like the rest of the family is going to be nearly as interested in what's going on, so there's maaaybe a little bit of Tello that wants to give Donnie some more of that sweet, sweet validation from a parent-aged adult.

The rest of the turtles just find it weird that the purples are over here getting each other scientific instruments and printed-out doctorate theses for their birthdays, but whatever. The purples have always been weird to them and that's never gonna change.

There's also fun things like LEGO sets. They spend three days putting together the ISS set and watching various horror movies like Alien. Donnie is allowed to keep all the sets and has a display case in his lab that is better protected than most bank vaults. The purples are the only ones allowed in there even though Leo keeps trying to get in to see what they've been working on.

Also Tello takes Donnie to museums at night! It's not hard for them to fix things with the security systems so nobody sees the turtles running around. They have a great time and Tello will never tell anyone that Donnie gets emotional over that one display with the fossilised turtle eggs.

Donnie is also the only one allowed to handle Tello's prosthetics. I mean, the others can touch them, but nobody else is allowed to work on them. Tello teaches Donnie a lot and Donnie is very careful with everything he does. He's also the one who comes up with the pattern that Tello eventually has on their arm! And he builds a new pair of goggles for Tello cause theirs is kinda busted up.

And I'm in charge of canon now so SHELLDON LIVED DAMN IT. He was never rebuilt before the apocalypse started, in the bad timeline, but Donnie rebuilds him in the good timeline. This is the one thing that Tello doesn't help with because they're too nervous about messing up. But when Shelldon is put back together again, and he and Donnie have had their reunion, Donnie brings him to Tello immediately. There's a lot of crying.

There are SO many hijinks. They get up to so much trouble together, truly they make each other worse. Leo starts a prank war once and the purples fucking finish it. Nobody else gets involved, as Leo is left to his fate even by Leonardo. He remembers The Great War Of 2028. Nobody will say exactly what happened but accusations are made.

And if anyone bothers Donnie, Tello will be there with a ridiculously sized knife in .02 seconds. Don't mess with little purple cause the big one is unhinged. They've threatened everyone but Casey Jr at some point, Jr just gets removed, usually picked up by the ankle by one of Tello's metal battle shell arms, with him giggling all the way.

The purples being bonded does make missions much more dangerous for the bad guys. Or rather, it did. Tello is officially banned from going on any missions that aren't life-or-death, because the second the young twins or Jr are in danger, Tello will make it life-or-death. Donnie doesn't see this as a problem, but everyone else does.

Conversations, on the other hand, don't happen much. At least not ones about emotions or the future. Tello's had enough of that shit and there's a lot of memories that they'd rather not revisit. Even apart from all their own trauma, what with losing two legs and an arm and a chunk of their shell, Red's death in particular hit them very hard.

Fortunately they always have Science! And Donnie's got a little bit of hero worship with how advanced Tello's stuff is. Sometimes they ask each other for advice on things. They're both unusually polite about it, in that they don't just jump in to fix the thing, and instead work together. Sometimes for 37 hours straight at a time.

Neither of the blues are very pleased with them for that. Neither of the purples care very much. Unfortunately Leo is too small to pick up either of them, and they all know from experience that Donnie will bitch him out if he tries while on crutches with a cracked shell. Tello does not yell. Tello is very quiet, while staring very intently, with a disappointed expression. Somehow that's much worse to the blues.

Tello scares Leonardo sometimes but that's not going to stop him from dropping by to kidnap Donnie to get him to sleep. Usually Tello is pretty good at realising when the two of them have been awake too long, and will get Donnie to bed. Sometimes the nerd things are just too important and Leonardo's gotta step in. Tello is nice enough to check what time it is before reacting, but if it hasn't been at least twelve hours, Leonardo is in danger. Nobody's helping him escape, he knew the risks.

Unconventional affection is so much a thing. There's been literally countless times where someone walks in on Donnie biting at Tello's arm cause Tello puts a wrap over their metal arm and Donnie can just. Chomp to his heart's content. They both think it's hilarious and they're right tbh I support them.

Headbutts are affection I said what I said. Usually it's like when a cat gently headbonks you to show affection, but also sometimes there's a lil bit of Violence in there. The others don't get involved in that, they've got enough bite marks from previous interferences in purple bonding.

Also, Tello reties Donnie's mask tails for him when one starts slipping loose. They don't let Donnie do that for them, something something shell trauma, something something if you surprise them from behind you're gonna have to go to the hospital. Donnie doesn't have all the details on that but he doesn't push them about it. He gets touchy enough about his brothers touching his uninjured shell.

Donnie is allowed to touch Tello's hair, however! They'll sit side by side and Donnie will braid it for them sometimes. Tello usually doesn't braid it themself because strands have a habit of getting wrapped in the joints of their metal fingers and that's just a hassle. But it's also calming for them to have someone working on their hair, so even though they never say they're stressed, Donnie knows the signs and always makes time for them when they need it.

This is something that originated in the bayrise fic and got carried over to wify cause I love it. When one or the both of them are having a no-touching day, they'll bow to each other in greeting! Only time they reliably use their manners, and the reds are lowkey tired of them not having manners any other time, but also the reds think it's adorable. They don't say that cause they don't wanna get hurt.

Hugs and cuddles are not so much a thing for them. Donnie is particular about when he lets people touch him, and Tello's ten times worse. They get a little better about it eventually, but it's not like they can synchronise the days when cuddling is okay. There's one thing that Tello always try to make an exception for, though.

When Donnie's stressed to the breaking point, Tello will haul him off to a remote blanket nest and curl completely around him so he can't see the outside world. Dark, quiet, alone, protected - they're the perfect conditions for Donnie to start coming down from the panic spiral. And if it's needed, Tello will hum the lullaby that Splinter used to calm them down when they were little.

Not even Jr or Leonardo will come near them when there's an emergency nest. He'd be better off throwing himself into the raptor pen at Jurassic Park and they all know it. They also all know where the emergency nest is, so they can make sure they avoid it. They call it the alligator nest because there's no doubt in anyone's mind that Tello would protect it with as much ferocity and nearly as many teeth as an angry mama alligator. They are quite correct.

Rambling, food + body things

I'm making granola, probably way too much of it, it's so high cal that I don't even want to look at the numbers haha but it's gonna be like power food to get me through the day, I'll eat it with plain yogurt, it'll be fine 😅

I'm nervous about going back to work, heavy manual labor in the Texas heat, I haven't built a stage since April, I'm gonna be so out of shape strength-wise, I've been good about walking regularly but I haven't really been carrying heavy things lately, and I've gotten used to mild temps so it's gonna be hard to transition back to heat in the 90s... Good news is I'm 10 lbs skinnier, I got some new shorts for work today that aren't as short as the other ones so maybe the guys won't be looking at my butt all day, hopefully if I can manage to drive 8h each for the next 3 days I can get to Texas a day early so I can get used to the heat and buy groceries.

We're supposed to have a full size fridge and a kitchenette in the hotel room so I'm gonna be able to get actual food and not just eat out every day, I'm thinking yogurt+granola for breakfast, salad and veggies and whatever veg protein catering is serving for lunch, banana for an afternoon snack, and then easy protein foods for dinner like cottage cheese, lentil soups, etc.

Would love to be 105 or under the next time I step on a scale but I also have to prioritize health + body functions above that right now, but if I can at least maintain weight and energy levels that's fine ?? I guess ?? Idk I technically hit my goal weight for the year and I have a history of immediately gaining once the ultimate goal is reached so I'm just gonna see how it goes, don't overthink it, drink electrolytes and eat protein and don't eat crazy junk food -> actually I'm rewriting that sentence bc the new ultimate goal for this year is officially 103 so the plan is to maintain if I must but continue on my journey at the first opportunity :)

Motivation:

thinking about how confident I feel when I'm skinny, being cute and dancing everywhere and existing comfortably in my body; just casually looking skinny in every scenario and photo, taking goofy pics and looking cute instead of awkward; sitting on things and not worrying if my thighs look fat, wearing a crop top and not worrying about bloating after a meal, doing tasks at work in awkward positions but looking cute and fit while doing it, not constantly adjusting my clothes all the time bc everything just sits better;

working at hula, making a good first impression on the art team there, working on cool projects and using my creative/technical skills, learning new things but looking cute rather than clueless; and then show days, wearing cute outfits, swimming in the river, being cold at night and bundling up in cozy clothes, dancing with strangers, floating around like a mysterious woodland creature, confidence to make new friends and explore past my comfort zone

going out in rave clothes for show days in orlando, dancing and cuddling with L and feeling extra tiny next to him, also just seeing him again I know he's gonna pick me up and swirl me around lol would be nice to feel so tiny while that happens :) I finally got myself a set of real earplugs (last time he gave me his and then dragged me to a techno show hahaha) so I feel ready to go out and actually participate this time; also working with the art team over there, they were really snooty last year but it'd be cool to come in all skinny and confident and helpful this year and just radiate good vibes over them;

I gotta start trying a little harder with my work outfits this year, sometimes they look kinda grungy or like dad working in the yard vibes, but I'm trying to elevate my look just a lil bit and being skinny is definitely going to help. Less sweat, smaller thighs/legs, stronger + more visible muscles, looking better in short shorts and crop tops even though I've still been wearing them this whole time lol, big tshirts and longer shorts also look better; wearing bright colors and patterns and tie dye, all of it looks better when you're skinny;

My face looks so much cuter when I'm thinner; skinny hands and wrists on the steering wheel; muscles actually visible in my legs and arms and abs; bones ofc but they kind of get in the way at work, my hipbones are gonna be so bruised after one day; but cheekbones, collarbones, wrist bones, shin bones, shoulder bones, spine... Actually my spine also gets bruised when we have a long standby and I lean up against something hard for too long.

You get the idea. I know I've been saying how skinny I feel like basically since I started losing again which is funny but it's nice to be under 110 officially, it's like a whole new level of skinny :) can we lose another 5 lbs in the next 4-5 weeks?? Maybe, there's gonna be a lot of exercise, hot weather, no one paying attention to what I'm eating or wanting to share food with me, skinny roommate so I can't just snack all night without feeling weird... Could work out!

(God and then I'm going from TX to Florida and I actually can't wait to be so skinny and weigh myself on the stupid giant scales at Publix lmfao that's gonna be so fun)

Wow ok it’s actually so crazy seeing someone who is “normal” (no substance abuse, good relationship with family, steady job, friendly, not ran thru lmao) and consistent (makes plans with me, I don’t have any doubt he likes me) .. this is a first for me. I really only date avoidant or love bomber men. I’m still seeing the guy from Charley Crockett. We don’t text a lot, he shows up, he’s told me he likes me, we have fun in person, I met his friends. We kind of had a check in where we were like OK we both like eachother but not in a spot to put labels on it - we didn’t say if we weren’t seeing other people. Just agreed we’re really enjoying our time and taking it slow. That we’ll check in again if we’re still doing this in a few months. I’ve been in two LTR (5 years and 3.5 years) and his longest is 6 months. When I asked him about it he just said he’s never dated anyone he could see a relationship with - until now. It’s the first time I’ve ever had this convo with a man and it was mutually brought up out of genuine interest from both parties, not insecurity, and I don’t feel like his answers were lies. We were both just being honest. That we do like eachother and it’s genuine but we’re still seeing what we want - but not in a bad way.

And for the first time ever this convo didn’t freak me out. I’m actually okay taking it slow, bc he hasn’t given me a reason to think otherwise (… yet, I feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop). Normally I’m pushing the “what are we doing” convo (if we’ve been “dating” not just having sex) bc the man has me STRESSED out and I know he’s seeing other people and his love bombing / bread crumbing keeps me hooked. Makes me feel like I’m not good enough and if I could just get them to choose me, it would make me feel whole (this is false I know). So to have this convo with CC guy .. and genuinely feel okay and be like cool can’t wait to keep knowing you and figuring this out feels so weird. I do have a mental block about entering a monogamous defined relationship w/ him though bc I do NOT want kids and he seems undecided. But that’s something I’ll revisit if we’re still doing this in November.

It’s also so insane to be seeing someone where the relationship isn’t based around sex. Like we actually hang out. I am very out of my element. I think I am honestly also just used to seeing men that frankly don’t respect me. Or I choose men that I immediately see they have 10,000 red flags so it gives me a false sense of control bc I’m like “cool I could never be in a relationship with you but I could fuck you so now I’m in a safe zone where my feelings aren’t involved”. And sex with CC isn’t what I normally am used to but I think it’s bc he respects me??? Lmao. Like I’m used to starting with crazy sex and building the relationship backwards. Not starting with dating and then building the sexual relationship.

We went on another date last week and I brought up that sometimes I can’t read him bc I’m a physical touch person and he doesn’t initiate and he was like “oh my god I’m physical touch too, I’m just not trying to be too forward or disrespectful bc I’m getting to know you” and I was like 💀 damn am I the problem.

Anyways; TLDR, seeing someone nice, consistent, not a love bomber for the first time ever. I’m out of my element bc it’s not triggering my dopamine receptors by love bombing and yanking attention away. My nervous system feels very regulated. I don’t have to send his texts to a panel of judges to interpret. He’s just nice and I like him. I’ve been avoiding posting this too thinking it may jinx me but. What’s meant for me won’t pass me by, I guess.

No I think that makes a lot of sense! I mean, to my knowledge, what Brian finds morally correct in MjE is based on his moral compass, so I definitely can see the rosary thing falling into this weird in between. I can see Galahad not really specifying that he's worshipping Brian directly or anything, but it feels heavily implied. I sometimes also feel like Brian's mind can get a little clouded easier in HNOC bc he's just been. Hanging there for goodness knows how long. So sometimes he might misinterpret things? I'm not sure how well that would fit into the canon of his time as Merlin, but I think it'd be funny if he's like "Ah Galahad is asking for help making a little harmless project. And I can help. I should help. :)" (Maybe I'm just projecting bc I deal with major brain fog a lot lmao)

Oh! I forgot to ever mention, but I was thinking too that Galahad may know about the beads and such as passed down information from generation to generation? I'm not sure how much written information there is in Fort Galfridian, because really if Camelot just happened to have had a big library somewhere in town then that would theoretically solve this instantly. But I've always adored the way spoken word passed information and stories and knowledge through generations and peoples when they didn't have a proper way to write it down and thought about implementing that onto the folk in Fort Galfridian. I also think Brian sharing knowledge (under the correct moral guidelines) would be super neat!

I like to think that in MjE Brian can value all life almost equally (i mean, reasonably there has to be some sort of ranking i suppose, likely based on the level of sentience said things carry?) so he'd see uprooting (and likely killing in the process) the rose as wrong, so the stalling bit would work perfectly to me. (Also, once the plant is rooted in him while he's hanging there though, there might not be much he could to to take it out anyway. Might as well help it live a little, though not to the detriment of those around him. Walking the line of that's something he can do in MjE.)

I would adore to learn if there are any roses that can do that! Of course I'm also always down for using fictional settings to my advantage and just saying "ah, yeah, space roses". But I much enjoy having real stuff implemented into fiction just because it's cool (though that usually comes from me getting an excuse to minorly infodump about my interests while writing). It's awesome getting to enjoy fiction while still Infodumping about real world stuff or learning about real world stuff!!! That sounds all rambly but!!! <3 (Also I really like the related/descended idea. Firstly bc if there isn't necessarily a specific rose that could work in this setting, you can find the roses closest to that and say they've mutated and adapted to their surroundings somehow. Also just because the idea of "all life being connected across the universe" is just chefs kiss that's poetry.)

(Brian and his roses are literally so bittersweet but also... Brian is literally a hanging potted plant and I can't help but find that funny.) Yes exactly ugh!!!! The roots crawl up and down his nervous system, burrowing deep and connecting close. Eventually Brian can feel what the roses feel, or at least as close as a metal man can feel anything. Feel their thirst, their love, their desire for light, the way a bud presses against it's enclosure, the way a leaf reaches out beyond its metal home. He can feel the pain of a limb bent and dying off, he can feel the clean new joy of a bud blooming. Eventually, he will open his terrarium that contains his close friend to Galahad, who is the first and only person he's deemed trustworthy enough to see the plant at all (or maybe he had shown the plant to another before, though it's been so long now.) He can feel Galahad's fingers brush their leaves with such an unexpected gentleness, and he can feel the slight sting echo through his ribcage and lighting up his nerves when Galahad snips off one of the blooms. The roses grow within him, twisting up and down through his metal hollows, and he can feel what they feel, and they can feel what he feels. When his friend finally burns, the pain will be the worse than any other Brian has ever experienced, and it will stay with him in his time of mourning, solitude, and white hot agony in the depths of the sun.

Anywayyyyy Brian and Galahad just hanging out!!!! I'm just. I get all mushy about it it's so sweet. At first Brian is a bit shocked by Galahad's company, not used to any of the townsfolk wanting to be near him longer than necessary. (Well, Arthur used to, he knew, but it has been quite a while since. And when Brian gives Arthur his prophecy, he only avoids Brian more.) Eventually, Brian gives Galahad his prophecy, and he knows something snapped in Galahad after his visions. Still, the night before they rode out, and the Pendragons and their posse drank the night away, Galahad sat beside The Hanged Man, fiddling with his now complete set of rosary beads. Galahad will say, at some point in that night, that he'd rather spend his last night in town with his patron, and his closest friend. Brian will hold this moment close in his chest, nestled comfortably in it's bed of roses, as he once again finds himself alone until the end. He will have a vision of Galahad's end, the man still clutching those beads as he's shot down, and Brian will know the exact moment Galahad falls.

Yeah I have a habit of apologizing for lengthy writings bc I infodump/over explain quite a bit sometimes! But I like the back and forth quite a lot too! It's nice :)

Climbing roses are exactly what I was picturing too- again thinking about a limb escaping it's enclosure just enough to climb up his leg and up the gallows. The magic of Merlin persists man. The idea he's had that plant for thousands of years is oh that hurts so much. Also works a lot bc I headcanon (to the point of it being my personal canon) that Brian has large beautiful gardens somewhere in the depths of the Aurora that he and the Aurora tend to. I feel like it would save a little heartache to know that same species still grows within Aurora, but it's not the same plant, so there's still a hole for it in his metaphorical heart.

Brian sitting there waiting to be strung up again bc it's probably morally wrong to leave his sentence before it's over is just. Imagine being the guy who has to go string up the metal man again. (I mean any organic material would probably rot or fray away, so regular rope would theoretically do the same thing, but likely take longer and be less narratively pleasing.) I think it would be a really funny hazing thing to do to newbie knights and stuff. Maybe they made Mordred do it once.

Let's get as many as possible bc people being overtaken by nature's growth while still alive is like. One of my absolute favorite... niche tropes? Not sure what to call it but. It's the best. (I mean I even have a DND character idea of a once paladin now druid who became overtaken by the spirit of the forest he once served. If you look closely you can see the flowers that reach from his mouth and the vines holding him together. I've never actually played DND tho so.)

Man the idea of Galahad learning how to glass blow just to make this rosary is such a cool image. Like I doubt they have the materials and equipment just once hand for that in Camelot, but it's a neat image to me. Also I'm not sure about the wire thing either but it makes sense to me! Also, I'm not sure how common of practice things like eye pins would be for actual rosaries beads, but again we don't necessarily have to stick with traditional beads in a non traditional setting. But he could possibly make eye pins by layering, cutting, and bending bits of Brian's hair? Though I still think I prefer the weaving of hair into a wire thread thing bc it just sounds cooler, I've used eye pins to make my faux rosaries before and it's fun :)

please consider: Galahad always carrying around rosary beads/prayer beads that carry the image of Merlin, The Hanged Man in the style of a saint or of a crucifix. Also he handmade the entire thing of beads btw.

In the few hours before Minecraft Championship began, your nerves had gotten the better of you, so instead of psyching yourself out, you'd gone live early on the training map, "now; no. A few days ago? God, absolutely," you admitted with a warm laugh, "but considering I was acting weird the first time I got to talk to him, and now he's still messaging me to chat, and not just about MCC things, I figure it's on him."

Despite your lack of a camera, your chat could clearly hear how wide you were smiling, already sounding fond despite the relative youth of the friendship you were discussing.

"I was running on not a lot of sleep, and like, I wanna say professional fear," you huffed with faint amusement, "because, like I wasn't starstruck because oh my god its Dream, but more like, I haven't had enough sleep and I'm talking to a man with more followers than there are people living in Australia, you know?"

[Dream: bold of you to assume I am ever well rested either 😂] flashed up in your chat for a moment for everyone to see, and though they couldn't see the surprise on your face, the silence is deafening.

"Shut up, he's here, everyone be cool," you began babbling, "Dream I swear I'm not usually this shit at To Get To The Other Side, I promise," you laughed awkwardly, right before you eat shit on the training map. Then, after a moment, you switch tactics; "also, hey Dream, call me and tell everyone that I'm not lying and we are becoming friends."

It takes a few long moments as you loiter on the training map, looking through comments, many of which were doubtful, before everyone hears the Discord call noise.

"Mods ban everyone who doubted me," you announce triumphantly before you even say hello, and everyone hears Dream's laughter echo across your stream.

"Hello to you too," he chuckles.

"Hi bestie," you play up your closeness, but still he plays along.

"Hey new bestie."

A long moment of silence follows, which you eventually break with a sigh.

"I'm sorry, you didn't need to actually call, I was just being a menace," you admitted sheepishly, starting a new game.

"What are friends for?" Dream responded with easily, and you immediately hit menu and left the server.

"We were doing Smash or Pass with the CGI creatures in Spy Kids 2, which I suggested," Dream points out, putting you both on blast in an instant, "and not only were you cool with that, but we both want to smash the Spider-Monkey, so now we're friends. I don't make the rules."

"It's the objectively correct answer," you don't even hesitate before answering, mouth moving faster than your brain, and face still presumably in your hands, "look at that creature and tell me he doesn't; one, sling phenomenal dick, and two, both know and practice aftercare." As you're speaking, if only to provide context for your audience, you tab away from Minecraft to Google image search the Spy Kids 2 Spider-Monkey.

"Yeah, I read your messages, I agree on all fronts; the Spider-Monkey is a service top and would treat us right," Dream added sagely, "but what I'm saying is the fact that we had in depth discussions about our reasoning behind whether we would smash or pass these CGI creatures has forged a friendship that I refuse to back out of."

"That's why you agreed to be my friend?" Your tone was strangely fond at that revelation.

"No, I agreed to be your friend because I posted a Thumb-Thumb from the first movie in our team's chat and you answered 'smash' in all capitals three seconds after I posted it, followed by 'what that thumb do', again, all capitals -"

"I hadn't had a lot of sleep!" You cut in to defend yourself, still sounding vaguely embarrassed.

"I was impressed by your fucking conviction!" He shouts, but the bright affection in his voice keeps him from sounding too aggressive. A few seconds of silence followed, and you tabbed back to Minecraft.

"To those in chat wondering," Dream sounds more than a little amused as he broke the silence, "I hadn't asked Smash or Pass, I literally just posted a picture of the Thumb-Thumb in the group chat; they responded before I had a chance to follow up."

"I don't know what I was thinking," you mumbled, sounding all kinds of bashful.

"I want to study you," you could hear him smirking. It was easy to play up your embarrassment when your chat couldn't see you grinning, "for the record you were really quiet when we first all met in the VC, so it surprised me - in a good way, of course."

"A good way?" You asked dubiously.

"Hey, if it wasn't, I wouldn't have DMed you to follow up, I wouldn't have bothered to watch your stream to try and get to know you better, and I wouldn't have called when you asked," he points out with a strangely kind bluntness to his words. You're once again quietly, ruminating on his words as a warmth blooms in your chest.

"Okay now I am kind of starstruck," you mumble, flustered and fond, "you need me to fight someone for you I definitely will," which gets him to laugh, and begins your long, public history of being a Dream Stan on main.

After your group places 4th in MCC, you anticipate your fast-formed friendship with Dream to fade considerably. You tell yourself you don't mind, that that's what happens; you're friends now, sure, but you shouldn't expect to be especially close.

But he's still just as quick to answer you. He starts conversations. He calls you just because he's had a strange thought he wants to talk through with someone, and you're one of his first choices, so of course you start calling him in similar situations. It doesn't take long for a script to form, even if it's just between the two of you, neither live, even sometimes bleeding into your DMs; Bestie, I've had a thought. / Terrifying, continue.

While you don't interact live often anymore, you speak in private almost daily, and neither of you forgets the joke even when the other isn't around to hear it. Jokes about stanning turn to jokes about simping, made all the more amusing by neither of you knowing what the other even looks like.

While you begin to develop a solid friendship with George and Sapnap along the way, so too does Dream get to know your own housemate, an ASMR YouTuber who is kind but bemused by your burgeoning friendship with one of the biggest names on the platform. Still, she gets along well just as you do with the rest of the Dream Team.

And when your housemate moves out and you're by yourself in the little two-bedroom apartment, they make sure you never feel lonely.

While live interactions were limited, you never hesitated to defend one another, no matter the platform. Mods in your streams quickly learned that if vitriolic Dream-Antis weren't banned before they properly got your attention, you would put them on blast without a shred of mercy.

[the bit is dead. you and dream don't give a shit about each other we know this is for clout. let it go] pops up as a donation that slipped through the cracks, and you, who had been ranking notable Cyberpunk NPCs on a tier list, and had mentioned in an offhand way that you and Dream got into an argument about some of the A-Tier choices, go dead silent.

The mood drops.

"Can you please explain how?" Voice absolutely poisonous and calm, you let your mouse rest idle in the middle of the screen, "mods let them speak; can you bring up this proof that everyone knows about that insinuates that my friendship with Dream is a spiteful bit on my behalf?" And you wait.

[everyone knows. obviously. you guys aren't friends you don't ever talk]

"Obviously," you give a thin-lipped smile that no-one sees as you read a message from Dream himself, asking if you want him to call. You hit call and continue to address the troll, "not that I have anything to prove to you, or anyone," you drawled, feeling rather smug seeing that Dream had picked up, "hey bestie, sorry to interrupt your hot boy shit, but get a load of this clown," you snorted.

"You want me to ban them?" Dream asks with the kind of lazy, smug confidence that was rarely warranted in your shared discussions, but made a pleasant little shiver run down your spine every time you heard it. Chat was screaming.

"That's right, you have mod privileges on my streams, don't you?" Your tone is frankly catty, so full of smug confidence that even without a visual your audience is practically able to picture your smile.

"Yeah, you gave them to me months before we even talked about you joining the SMP -" Dream's own tone shifts as he stops matching your energy to menace you on your own stream. As anticipated, it broke you into disbelieving laughter as you shrieked for a moment.

"You're such a dick!" You laughed brightly, "I've been building up that will-they-wont-they-invite-me bit since MCC!"

"Okay, bye bestie, love you!" Dream announced cheerfully over the top of your dismay before immediately hanging up the call. While you're half-groaning, half-laughing at his sheer audacity, one of your other mods was quick to post that this is how people knew you were actually good friends, and for once your chat was in absolute agreement. At least when they weren't begging you for details on your SMP character and when you might finally join.

"I never said I accepted the invite," you tried to play coy, but it was futile, "he's so lucky he's cute."

Thankfully the overall reception to Dream's brief cameo was positive, and at least for a few days the people claiming you were a clout chaser quietened down. It's a brief reprieve but you're still glad for it.

In some ways you found it easier being faceless online; it's easier to disconnect yourself from a lot of the baseless hate. That being said, you found yourself, like many of your faceless fellow creators, to be a lightning rod for speculation and cruel potential comparisons. And more than anything, people went to horrifying lengths to try and discover your true identity behind the screen.

"Would you ever do a proper face reveal?" You hear yourself asking Dream at an hour that's arguably both too late and too early.

"I mean I want to," he admits, "I want to meet my friends and fans and make IRL content, you know?" Serious conversations were happening more and more often between you two. Maybe it's a sign of closeness, "but still the idea kind of freaks me out, like I'm losing a safety net. I love Sap and George but now that they're out there it's like they've kind of forgotten what it's like, and now my numbers are fucking astronomical, it's..." The way he signs betrays just how exhausted he was by certain aspects of his success.

"I know..." While your numbers may not be even close to Dream's, you've still got a few million subscribers of your own, and know all too well how the pressure aches. Still, you try to lighten the mood, "I'll make you my lock screen."

"What, now?" He laughs with confusion

"After your face reveal I'll make you my lock screen," you tell him with complete sincerity. You're not completely sure what reaction you're hoping for, but silence isn't it.

"Dream?"

"I've had an idea," he muses, sounding suddenly energetic, and you don't even have time to make an intrigued noise before he's continuing, "we should meet up."

"In person?"

"Yeah, you come to me or I'll come to you," enthusiasm is spilling from him, and you hear him begin to frantically type. You, however, are far more hesitant.

"Why? What would be the point?" And at your question, the tapping of the keys goes silent.

"I wanna hang out with you?" He says a little awkwardly, almost like it's a question, "I want to see you in person? You're one of my best friends? I think it'd be funny for two of the biggest faceless streamers to do a meet-up before either of us face reveal? Take your pick," he sounds a little defensive.

"I-" you find yourself touched by the sentiment, overwhelmed at his words, "I know we are friends, and I know it's kind of something we joke about, but I always figured, you know, you had George and Sap and..." you feel your chest swell with pride, "do you really think of me as one of your best friends?"

A long silence follows.

"Do you not?" He asks, sounding a little disappointed, which has you backpedaling almost immediately.

"Of course I do, but I don't -" you hesitate before admitting, "I don't really have any other best friends. I like my housemate but ours is a convenience thing more than anything else."

"You're a different kind of best friend to Sap or George, or you know, even different to Karl or Q," he tells you after a few moments of deliberation, but at least he seems to be in better spirits, "but yeah, I still consider you one of my best friends." The typing on his end of the call has tentatively resumed.

"What kind of different?" You ask gently, and are again met with hesitation.

"There's parts of how I..." He trails off and hums thoughtfully, trying to organise his thoughts, "the way we exist online- no... I mean yes but it's not quite..." Then, carefully, "you know me," and he lets it hang in the silence between you both, and you give him the time to elaborate, heart in your throat, "you know me in a way that's very hard to describe and so much harder to find, because I feel like you know me in the nichest way, you know? Since that random-ass call the day of MCC, I was like, sure about you in a way that I'd never been about another person. Like safe - I mean," and he splutters half sentences again for a few moments, like he hadn't quite meant to admit that last part, but you're glad he did. You knew exactly what feeling he was talking about, the one that burned deep in your chest, that you knew you could never dream to find the words for.

You tell him your address.

He goes quiet.

The typing continues.

"So this is it, I'm coming to visit," suddenly he sounds nervous, and despite feeling that too, you can't help but grin.

"How soon?"

"Two days?"

"Two days!" The way you cheer in confirmation is cathartic for you both; you hear him definitely hit enter to purchase the plane ticket, and he laughs like he can't believe it's really happening. Then, as the laughter dies down, your voice turns quiet and fond, "you make me feel safe too, Dream."

"Stop," he sounds plaintive but still somehow bright, "I already kind of feel like I'm about to cry, I can't believe I get to see you so soon."

"So soon," you echo the affirmation with a smile.

To celebrate you watch and movie together, ending up falling asleep on the call. All you feel when you wake is how giddy you are knowing how soon it would be until you saw your best friend in person, finally!

He insists on taking an Uber from the airport, wants your first time seeing each other to be somewhere your voices have no chance of getting recognised, so by the time you buzz him into your building your practically sick with anticipation. Pacing with your earbuds in, something about hearing the echo of his real voice at your front door just ahead of hearing him in the call, it makes it all feel so real.

"I'm gonna hang up and knock now," his tone is so gentle, like he can tell you're freaking out more than he is right now.

"Okay, love you," you blurt out on tense instinct. He hangs up but you can hear his fond laughter the moment before he starts to knock. He doesn't even get a third knock in before you've wrenched the door open, heartbeat in your ears, absolutely clueless on what to expect -

He's real. He's a real person and he's standing in front of you and your best friend Dream has kind eyes. Around the time you register that this isn't a trick, that he's got wavy hair and he's tall and pale as all fuck, you realise that you're definitely checking him out, which somehow feels weirder when it hits you that he's actually very handsome. He had a place in your heart pretty much since you met him, but this is a welcome surprise.

"Do you wanna come in?" You asked with a little laugh, stepping to the side and gesturing him in. His expression was unreadable as he stepped past you, "it's good to see you," you tried, but once you closed the door and turned around, you couldn't help but feel self conscious.

"Come on man, this is really me, I'd rather you not do a bit, I've been cleaning but I tried to -" you dip your gaze to avoid looking at him, scouring your outfit for any stains you made have noticed, hoping his reaction was to something you could fix -

"This isn't a bit, sorry, I promise," he says in a rush, stepping forward. When you finally look back up, he's smiling at you, hand hovering like he went to touch your cheek but he's not sure he's allowed, "I cannot believe you've been this pretty behind the screen this entire time, this is so unfair, I could have bought a plane ticket months ago."

Slowly, as his words sink in, you feel yourself beginning to grin and grow flustered.

"Okay, this bit I approve of -"

"Who says it's a bit?" He crowed, stepping closer to you, cupping your face with his hand, "look at your face, this isn't a bit, you're hot! Who let you be hot?" And you know that tone, have heard that smile in his words before; the fact that this smile was behind it every time?

"No, shut up, you're not allowed to simp over me, I'm meant to be simping over you; you just finished a plane and uber ride, how are you not a hot mess? Who let you be hot?" And immediately he's turning red, basking in your compliments with a wide grin.

"We're gonna be insufferable on stream, aren't we?"

"Without a doubt," you beam, and finally you pull each other into a tight hug.

After dinner you drag a second chair into what is now your office, making sure the space was set up for you both to be comfortable. Once your computer is booting up, he pulls out his phone and instructs you to make half a heart with your hand in front of the computer. He completes the heart with his own and snaps a photo, your aesthetic set up in the background.

[am I really in @Y/N's apartment IRL for the most convoluted meet up ever or am i very good at photoshop? idk you decide] is how he captions the photo, which you immediately retweet onto your main account with a link to your Twitch.

"I ain't ever seen two pretty best friends!" You quote loudly at your chat to start your stream, immediately causing Dream to laugh, leaning over to press his forehead against your shoulder while you continued on strong, "and neither will you! Welcome to the most confusing and least provable meet up! Special guest Dream, do you wanna say hello?"

"I do," he wheezed, "I'm special guest Dream, coming to you live from Y/N's office, believe it or not!"

"I'm seeing a lot of non believers here," you mumbled with faux disappointment.

"They don't have to believe," Dream points out, far less performative than he'd been a moment ago. When he smiles at you, something eases in your chest. There's no weird tension, or uncomfortable silences, or doubt. Your best friend is by your side; the only thing that matters in this moment is him.
